Albert Einstein suffered from it,
and so did Thomas Alva Edison and General George Patton.
Today, roughly 10 percent of school children in India
suffer from it (A staggering figure - approximately
3.9 million). The 'Hidden handicap', as it's called,
is a result of faulty wiring in the brain, due to
which even a child with average or above average intelligence
has trouble reading and writing because he is unable
to process information taken in by eyes, ears or touch.
In fact, many dyslexics have exceptional abilities
in different fields. Learning disability or dyslexia
was first described in the 1890's by W.Pringle Morgan,
a physician in Sussex, England. But only in the 20th
century did educationists and others start exploring
alternative ways of teaching dyslexic children.
