The Ninth International Conference “HELP 2011 – Holistic Enhancement of Learning Potential” was held by Alpha to Omega Learning Centre in partnership with National Institute for Learning Development, Virginia, USA at Asiana Hotel on 2nd and 3rd December, 2011. Dr. Kathleen Hopkins Director of NILD inaugurated the event and delivered the Keynote address -“Finding the Skylights”. The Chief Guest for the event was Mr. GRK Reddy, Chairman, Marg Properties.

Participants from all over India as well as abroad took part in the Conference. Parallel sessions were conducted and the participants had a choice of attending the seminars of their interest. The various sessions included Handwriting: The Case for Instruction and Moving Beyond Memorization by Dr. Kathleen Hopkins, Concept-Rich Mathematics Instruction and Investigating the Big Ideas of Arithmetic by Dr. Meir Ben-Hur, An overview of Developmental Disabilities in the School aged child and The impact of Learning Disabilities on the child and the family by Dr. Thambirajah, Emotions and Learning: Emotional Intervention and Reading Disability: An NILD Educational Therapy Approach by Bridget Wren, Learning and Vision Related Problems by Dr R Krishna Kumar and Scope and success of homeopathy & other alternate therapies for behavioural disorders by Dr. Jayesh V. Sanghvi.

Conference concluded with a discussion by a seven member panel consisting of Rajul Padmanabhan, Dr. Usha Ramakrishnan, Dr. Meir Ben Hur, Dr. Rakesh Odedra, Dr. Kathleem Hopkins, Jane Kish (Director of Development, NILD) and Bridget Wren who provided an interesting insight into the topic of Learning Disability.

The Conference was successful in imparting knowledge to parents for better understanding of their children, to teachers to equip them with the current information and new methodologies and it also helped them view the world from the perspective of a child with Learning Disability.
